Run Jarvis Run

Patrick finished the race with a time of 3 hours 23 minutes and 40 seconds! Well done Patrick. Donations are still being accepted in support of Patrick's hard work.

I’ve always enjoyed the challenges of sport and although I’m now embarking on another physical test, this event is different as it is much more than a simple personal goal, it’s really about the chance to provide opportunities for others to realize the benefits of an active lifestyle.

Back in October 2009, I ran the Chicago marathon and fortunately ran fast enough to qualify for the Boston marathon, so on April 18 this year, I will be ‘toeing the line’ for another 26.2 miles (42.2 km) jaunt. This time though, I want others to benefit directly from my efforts so I’ll be using the Boston marathon as a fundraiser for Paralympic sport in Canada.

For nearly 25 years, I’ve been involved with sport for people with a disability, as a competitor, an administrator but primarily as a volunteer. However, I’ve been involved with sports of one type or another for a lot longer than that and it seems I’ve been running for ever. Mind you, not running from anything or even chasing something, it’s simply always been a part of my enjoyment of the realm of the physical.

Over the weeks, I will share stories on things learned from running, providing anecdotes illustrating the joys of running and the lessons imparted on roads and trails from around the world. From farmers in Saskatchewan to Kyoto, Japan; from running clubs in Cairo to Calgary; there have been so many characters who have already been a part of my running story and have provided me with so many tales!

Now I’m inviting you and others to share in a part of my sport / life journey, to vicariously experience training for and running a marathon – and you won’t even have to worry about breaking a sweat, let alone injuring yourself!
